About the Vermont Dairy Promotion Council
This unique group of farmer cooperative members, independent farmers and processors works to promote the benefits and concerns of Vermont’s dairy industry. By state and federal law, a portion of farmers’ milk checks goes toward local and national dairy promotion. In Vermont, 10 cents per hundredweight (100 pounds of milk or 11.6 gallons) go to the Dairy Promotion Council and five cents go toward national programs. Vermont’s portion of the money is distributed to a number of groups in addition to the VDPC, including the New England Dairy Promotions Board, the Vermont Agency of Agriculture, the University of Vermont and others.
