Hosting School Classes and Community Groups Visiting Your Farm

Letting people visit your farm is a great way to help them learn about farming first-hand. Here are some things you can do before the kids arrive.

  • Ask the teacher how many children in the class live on a farm.
  • Find out what the students have learned before they visit. Have they done any preparation?
  • What does the teacher expect the students to see and learn?
  • Take a look at your farm and animals with a critical eye. Is there anything that will give the students or chaperones a very negative impression of farming?

For health and safety reasons, explain to the teacher the children should wash their hands before they eat, and again after they have visited the farm. Do not let the students drink raw milk.
