Vermont's Dairy Industry
Vermont's dairy industry is the largest in New England. Vermont dairy farmers export over 90% of their milk. Most of the milk goes to Southern New England. Vermonters do make great cheese, ice cream and other dairy products. In 2001, Vermont was home to 153,000 dairy cows. Cash CowsVermont's dairy industry generated over $381,810,000 in milk sales in 2000. That equates to 2,787 million pounds of milk. Milk is commonly measured in hundredweight, or 100 pounds of milk, designated as cwt. |
